Terror Threat at Alliance High School

Heavy security and tension marked prayers at Alliance High School and Alliance Girls High School following an online terror alert that terrorists would launch an attack during the prayers for the candidates.

As parents and guardians streamed into the two schools early morning, heavy security was deployed in the two institutions to keep watch over the events.

A police officer who was coordinating the security exercise said 70 police officers from various units, including the anti-terrorism unit, were stationed at different points within the schools compounds.

“We have been here since morning,” he said. “Now, it is 3pm, prayers at Alliance Girls have ended and the girls are having lunch with their parents and we are just watching over prayers at the Alliance Boys School which are about to end,” he added.

He said that they had learnt about the terror threat through an internet message and did not want to take any chances.

Moreover, churches in Kiambu County held prayers for examination candidates expected to start mid-October, Secondary schools, and mid-November, Primary schools.

Peace messages dominated the prayers owing to the recent terrorist attacks at the Westgate mall in Nairobi. The religious leaders called for tolerance and assured their congregations that peace would prevail.
