The 39 year-old left her musical career and everything else in Kenya to start a family with her then boyfriend and current ex-husband Attitude. There romance had been all over the media and as she explains, she had reached a point where she wanted to settle down and start a family.
The couple split in 2011 after four years of marriage and Mercy decided to pick up the pieces for the sake of their soon-to-be 7 year old daughter.
“I was broken after my marriage ended. No one enters into marriage believing it will end, but when it happens, you have to pick yourself up and move on. I had to be strong for my daughter, and so after I was done with mourning the end of my marriage, I had to get up and continue living. The experience has inspired one of my new singles called Soldier,” she was quoted saying by pulse.
“I am not dating, I want to raise my daughter and build my career,” she added.
Mercy made her debut into the limelight in 1994 with the calabash band before going solo in 1998. She was one of the few solo female acts in the country. Her bold fashion sense and strong vocals quickly turned her into a household name.
She will be performing tomorrow at the Carnivore alongside gifted singers Carol Atemi and Sahibu at a show dubbed ‘Past, Present and Future’.
