Rescue operations enters fourth day in Kenya€™s Westagate Mall siege even as heavy gunfire was reported early Tuesday morning.

Heavy gunfire was reported at about 6.45 am signalling resistance from the terrorists even as interior ministry announced that they had taken control of the four floors of the Mall. Much of the night was largely quiet as emergency services waited outside the Mall in fire brigade engines, and ambulances.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to address the nation in what is believed will be a detailed report that the terrorists have been subdued.

Kenyans remained active on social media platforms asking hard questions and waiting for the victory signal from the security forces.

The Media kept an overnight vigil at the scene at a distance of about 70 meters covering every moment of the operation.

Interior minister Joseph ole Lenku said two of the terrorists had been shot dead.

At least 62 people have been killed and more than 170 left injured since the assault at the mall began on Saturday.

On Monday, the day three of the incident, bursts of gunfire and loud explosions rang out as security forces battled to break the siege on Westgate Mall by terrorists.

A plume of black smoke billowed from the building after a fire broke out reportedly triggered by grenade explosions set off by the terrorists at around 1 pm.

And 50-hours since suspected AL-Shabaab gunmen stormed the up-market shopping center in Nairobi€™s West lands, some shoppers who were holed up in the building, including a university student, were rescued.

Security forces freed the Moi University second year student at about 1pm. He had hidden up in the ceiling. Though frightened after the horrific ordeal, he was, however, lucky to escape with his life with only an injury to his lip.
