Speaking through a phone, the witness who was expected to testify this week against Ruto said she no longer wished to give evidence because Kenya was now at peace. She also said that the warring communities were now working together and thus there was no need to testify. “My client has no wish to re-open healed wounds and is keen to be part of ongoing peace building efforts in the country,” said Frank Mwangi the witness lawyer to ICC in a written statement.
“She feels a lot has changed for the better and there is peace everywhere with the communities looking for ways to make the reconciliation being enjoyed permanent,” the statement added.
