In the early 1990s, Dr Ndemo was a Financial Systems Analyst at Medtronic Inco, a Fortune 500 company in the USA.

Kenya a regional hub

“While this phenomenal growth of the ICT sector is envisioned to serve as an engine for economic growth in the 21st century, it may also, if not properly managed, create a disparity between those without and those with access to the ICT infrastructure and services,” said Dr Ndemo.

A key project that Dr Ndemo, who holds a PhD in Industrial Economics from the University of Sheffield in the UK, an Masters degree in Business Administration and a Bachelors degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Minnesota, would be remembered for is the Konza technology city, a metropolis inspired by USA’s Silicon valley to drive innovation.

Dr Ndemo, however, argued that though Konza Technology City is key to the development of ICT in Kenya, the country risks widening the digital divide among its masses unless ICT infrastructure is evenly distributed.

Konza magic
