Deputies identified the deceased woman as Diana Freeman, 66, and the deceased shooter as Ian Muriu. Freeman had lived at the Muriu house for at least the past three months, officers said.
Deputies were dispatched at 7:14 p.m. to a home on Walton Drive in Bethlehem after Jennifer Muriu called law enforcement officials to say Ian Muriu, her husband, had fired a weapon inside their home. She had fled to a neighbor’s house and informed responding deputies that her mother was still inside the house.
Deputies surrounded the house and after attempts to contact someone inside were unsuccessful, they entered the house and found Freeman dead of gunshot wounds, according to the report. Muriu was also found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, officers said.
The website for The Spitfire Restaurant at the Barrow County Airport in Winder shows that Ian and Jennifer Muriu are the restaurant owners.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating events leading up to the shooting, including what the motive may have been, the spokesman said.
