MIKE SONKO and SHEBESH in COURT

Nairobi Senator Gideon Sonko and women’s representative Rachel Shebesh were yesterday restrained from interfering with a disputed plot in Eastlands.

The High Court barred the two from trespassing or interfering with the 3.5 hectares of land in Buru Buru pending the hearing and determination of the case.

Sonko and Shebesh have been sued by Tranquility Development Ltd which lays claim to the parcel of land.

The company claims it bought the land from the National Council of Churches of Kenya in 2013. After the purchase, the company says it obtained a title deed and started developing it including erection of a perimeter wall around the property in preparation for further developments.

On June 16, the company claims Sonko and Shebesh accompanied by a mob stormed the property, destroyed the gate and part of the wall.

Some of the employees on site were seriously injured in the incident. The company also claims it lost property worth millions during the raid.

Through JS Khakula law firm, the company argues that its rights were violated by Sonko and Shebesh. The case hearing is yet to be set.
