A farewell party for outgoing Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka will be held after Uhuru Kenyatta is sworn in as president.

According to Head of Public Service Francis Kimemia the party will also include outgoing members of President Mwai Kibaki’s Cabinet.

“We will deliberate as a committee and will see if we can do something for them, they are still Kenyan leaders,” said Kimemia who chairs the Assumption of the Office of President Committee.

Kimemia however, declined to divulge more details about the date and venue of thefarewell party.

In an interview with Capital FM News, Kimemia also said that the ministers who were not elected in the March 4 General Election will be notified on when to vacate office after new Cabinet Secretaries are appointed.

“There is no hurry; they will be told when to vacate office. Those who were elected and sworn in as Senators, Governors or MP’s should have by now left office,” he added.

Odinga who lost to Kenyatta in the March 4 election was a co-principal in the grand Coalition Government that was formed following the dispute over the 2007 presidential election.

There have been concerns from a section of Odinga’s supporters why the government had not held farewell parties for Odinga and Musyoka after holding one for outgoing president Mwai Kibaki.

Odinga, accompanied by Musyoka and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, left the country on Saturday for South Africa and are not expected at Tuesday’s installationof Kenyatta as president.

In the past two weeks, President Kibaki was feted by the military, judiciary and the Public Service Commission which was hosted at Statehouse Nairobi last Friday.

At last Friday’s farewell luncheon the National Oil Corporation offered to build a petrol station for President Kibaki at a place of his choice while the Ministry of Fisheries pledged to construct four fish ponds for him.

The retiring Head of State was also given two dairy cows and four bulls. The National Youth Service will also to sink a borehole for the outgoing President as his Mweiga home in Nyeri County.
