TNA Objects Citizen Radio Employee Nomination To Senate

You must have seen her story that aired on Citizen TV news yesterday, as the station flossed of having the first senator coming from the radio department. It was all joy among her colleagues as Adhiambo Gwendo cleared with the station after tendering her resignation to assume duty as one of the nominated Senator’s under TNA. As soon as they bade her good bye, she left for Naivasha where Jubilee Alliance has its meeting ahead of speakers’ elections on Thursday.

Yes! She may be too near yet too far. Her nomination is now in protest as Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA
moved to court to block her appointment.

In a petition filed at High Court in Nairobi on Tuesday, TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of tampering with TNA’s list of nominated women Senators.

The party says Ms Lydia Mathia’s name, which it had submitted, was missing from the (IEBC) list.

The party also accused the IEBC of discriminating Ms Mathiu because she is a Kikuyu.

Sakaja said TNA submitted a list of women to be nominated to the Senate on March 16 which met the legal requirements for regional, ethnic and gender balance and the need for a representative balance in the Jubilee Coalition.

The five names that were presented were were Beth Mugo (Nairobi), Saadia Abdi Kantoma (North Eastern), Lydia Mathia (Mt Kenya), Linah Jebii Kilimo (Rift Valley) and Naisula Lesuuda (Rift Valley)

But Sakaja said the final list which was gazetted by IEBC removed the name of Ms Lydia Mathiu replacing it with Joy Adhiambo Gwendo who never participated in Jubilee campaigns.

The final list gazetted by IEBC had Beth Wambui Mugo, Emma Mbura Gertrude, Naisula Lesuuda and Joy Adhiambo Gwendo.

“This list is not only unacceptable bearing in mind the votes that Jubilee garnered in the Mt Kenya region,” Sakaja said

High Court will make a ruling on today, Wednesday 27th March 2013.
