Controversial blogger, Robert Alai yesterday published an audio clip recorded at the Jubilee retreat in Naivasha that circulated on the social media scene in a big way. President-elect, Uhuru Kenyatta had on the clip used the words “some six people” to refer to the judges at the Supreme Court. Listen to the clip below:
Well, the President-elect may or may have not come across Alai’s post but the circular it made on social media triggered NTV to publish the same clip on video on their YouTube channel, having skipped it from their main news items and for sure, anywhere between the audio clip and the video published by NTV caught the attention of Uhuru, and he had to make an apology to the judges for such disrespect. Here is the video posted by NTV
I have to say that we take for granted some things that are happening in our country and the changes going on in regard to freedom of speech, hate-speech and online activism. Two people have specifically faced the hard battles, court rooms and even police cells, namely Denis Itumbi and Robert Alai.
Robert is described by many as a man always looking for controversy and while you may not always agree or commend what he does, he is a guy with some balls to speak out. Some of the things Alai talks about most of us would go mute even if we had video evidence. Alai does his homework and to be honest, while I do not necessarily find some of his posts useful or even researched, you have to respect the levels this guy is willing to go.
Either way, we need more people who can go the longer heights to get to the truth, probably express it just in a better way than Alai does.
