CORD presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga on Wednesday held his last campaign rally in North Eastern Province wooing voters to support his bid in Monday’s General Election.
Addressing a public rally at Garissa Primary School grounds, Odinga told residents of Northern Kenya not to gamble with their votes by electing leaders who are not serious with full implementation of the new Constitution and the fight against negative ethnicity.
He said that the CORD team was committed to real reforms which will be realised by fully implementing the Constitution.
“Our coalition represents the change that Kenyans have been yearning for; Kenyans have suffered a lot for the last 50 years and voting for cord is voting for better life,” he said.
On the past election, Odinga noted that ODM did not deliver on all the promises of 2007 because the party entered a forced marriage and was compelled to shelve some of its plans.
”We did not deliver on most of our 2007 promises because we shared power but we were able to spearhead constitutional reforms that gave birth to the new constitution,” added the PM.
He said his government will solve the region’s economic woes which he blamed on marginalisation by past regimes.
Odinga promised that CORD would provide livestock insurance to cushion pastoralists from loses in times of drought.
”We will ensure security of livestock during droughts by providing livestock insurance so that pastoral communities don’t suffer loses,” he said.
He pointed out that the coalition will also ensure the development of education; improvement of infrastructure and eradication of poverty are realised if he is given the opportunity to succeed President Kibaki.
“CORD will build a university in Garissa among other development projects we have for this region,” he said.
The PM said that should he make it to State House, he will build dams in arid areas to be used for irrigation to boost food security and stop over reliance on rain fed agriculture.
Former deputy speaker Farah Maalim told the rally that the rival Jubilee Alliance had nothing to offer Kenyans as it was formed based on the ICC cases.
”We cannot as Kenyans be duped to follow an alliance whose formation was based on the ICC. We are in CORD because this is a coalition that champions the rights of Kenyans,” he said. -CapitalFM News
