Machakos County governor-elect Alfred Mutua rejects offices in Machakos

Machakos County governor-elect Alfred Mutua has rejected offices allocated to him by the Transition Authority (TA), citing inadequate space.

In an exclusive interview with The Standard, the new governor said the Machakos Municipal Council offices were too small to accommodate his entire staff. Mutua accused TA of doing little to ensure governors were comfortable in their operations.

“The motive is simply bent on turning governors into glorified mayors and the Government should come clear on the issue,” said a disgruntled Dr Mutua.

He said he was operating from his secretariat offices in Machakos town, adding the TA should be held responsible for the situation.

He said he opted to leave the council offices for his deputy, Benard Kiala. Mutua said TA should explain to Kenyans what measures it had taken to ensure governors never experienced such a crisis.

“Its aim was to ensure everything is already set before the governors are elected but this was not done,” he added.

Mutua had been allocated the former mayor’s office while his deputy was to occupy the town clerk’s office. -Standard Digital
