It will be a tall order for the President elect Uhuru Kenyatta as he embarks reforming the country especially land issues considering the large tracks of land the Kenyatta family holds in this country.
Barely a week after Uhuru was declared winner of the March 4th General Election, residents of Taita Taveta have began demanding Uhuru Kenyatta to give them land that he promised during his campaigns.
During the last Presidential debate, Uhuru Kenyatta admitted his family owning over 30,000 acres of land in Taita Taveta with many locals living as squatters.
Speaking yesterday, the former Taita MP Mashengu wa Mwachofi challenged Kenyatta family to return the land to the residents because it rightfully belongs to them. Kenyatta has since insisted that the land was legally acquired on a ‘willing seller willing buyer’ basis.
However, Uhuru promised to give Taita Taveta squatters some more land above the 4,000 acres of land he had earlier given them as a gift. Something residents now want him to take responsibility.
