Safina in Court Over Exclusion of Paul Muite From Monday's TV Presidential Debate

Safina Party has gone to court to challenge the exclusion of its flagbearer Paul Muite from a live broadcast presidential debate involving six candidates of the eight contenders to be held on Monday beginning 7:30pm.

The court is expected to rule on the matter on Monday at 11am.

Also missing from the presidential debate is the Alliance for Real Change candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida.

Safina's Executive Director David Wanjohi said the exclusion of Mr Muite from the debate denies him his constitutional right of equal coverage like other presidential candidates.

"This is discrimination by the media against the provision of the Constitution that allows all presidential candidates equal coverage," he said.

He also said that Mr Muite has not been accorded state security and that the party has notified IEBC on the same.

Eight television stations and 34 radio stations with national coverage will broadcast live the event that is being organised by Kenya’s major media houses. - Sunday Nation
