Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called on Francis Kimemia to resign as Head of Civil Service for meddling in politics.
Mr Odinga claimed the Civil Service boss has been involving himself in the political campaigns of Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Alliance.
Kenyans go to the polls on March 4, 2013 and opinion polls are indicating Prime Minister Odinga and Deputy Prime Minister Kenyatta are locked in a neck to neck fight for the top seat.
According to Mr Odinga, the Civil Service boss has been meeting various heads of the provincial administration to mobilise a campaign machinery for the Jubilee Alliance candidate.
In the alleged plan, members of the provincial administration are being ordered to hold peace campaigns in their respective jurisdictions, which according to Mr Odinga, is a pretext for mobilising support for Mr Kenyatta.
Mr Odinga made the claims on Thursday morning at Wilson airport. He set to hold rallies across Elgeyo-Marakwet county.
Meanwhile civil society groups held demonstrations in Nairobi to demand for the immediate resignation of Mr Kimemia.
Led by Bunge la Mwananchi leader Cidi Otieno, the groups accused Mr Kimemia of overstepping his mandate by trying to frustrate Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga and other judicial officers.
Chief Justice Willy Mutunga on Wednesday protested over an incident where an immigration officer attempted to block him at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from travelling to Tanzania for allegedly not having been cleared by Mr Kimemia.
“Any institution or office that purports to control the movement of the Chief Justice is contrary to the constitution and should be condemned. The incident at the Airport was a move to frustrate and intimidate the judiciary,” Mr Cidi read from a petition they also delivered at Mr Kimemia’s office at Harambee House.
Earlier, the groups that also included The Nubian Human Rights Forum and The Unga Revolution held demonstrations in the streets of Nairobi chanting “Kimemia Must Go”.
And Cord's secretariat has raised concern over threats being issued to its supporters to vacate particular regions in the country ahead of the General Elections.
Cord’s communication committee chairman John Koech has said leaflets are being spread to their supporters in Naivasha and Nairobi.
“We have reliable information that some people are issuing threats to the Cord alliance supporters in these two regions to the extent of leaflets being flown left, right and centre,” he said.
He called on the necessary security agencies to take action and ensure security ahead of the March 4 General Elections.
