Thugs posing as police officers robbed a man of Sh30,000 moments after he left a bank in Machakos town.
Mr Munyao Salu, had just withdrawn the money to take his child to school when the thugs pounced on him.
Salu said two men who identified themselves as police officers in plain clothes emerged as he entered a shop and ordered him to accompany them to the Machakos Police Station where they alleged he had a pending case.
“But when I tried to resist, two more men came and they frogmarched me to a waiting car and bundled me inside,’’ he said
A sales lady at the shop hid behind the counter when the thugs struck. They ordered her to hand over the money Salu had given her for the items he had purchased.
“They blindfolded me and started hitting me with an empty bottle which broke on my leg injuring me seriously,’’ said Salu.
He said the thugs dumped him in a thicket near Lukenya area after robbing him of the Sh30,000 and his two mobile phones. Reacting to the incident, the Machakos District OCPD Mr Richard Kerich, termed the incident as an isolated case in the area but vowed to hunt the criminals down.
He said it was unfortunate such a syndicate, disguised as police, had emerged in the area.
“Let them know that their days are numbered,” said the OCPD. -The Standard
