Narc Kenya presidential candidate Martha Karua has cautioned Kenyans against electing the Jubilee coalition in the March 4 General Election.

Jubilee's presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate William Ruto are facing crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and yet they are seeking leadership, said Ms Karua.

"In the event they are elected into office, the ICC will be in need of these two suspects and our country is not someone’s kiosk that can be opened and closed at will to allow one to attend to other responsibilities,” said Ms Karua in Elgeyo Marakwet County Tuesday.

Ms Karua said the constitution is very clear that if the president is out of the country, the deputy president will be in charge.

She said this would not be possible since Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto will be required to attend trial at The Hague in person.

Addressing a series of whirlwind rallies in the North Rift to drum up support for her presidential bid, Ms Karua asked Kenyans to be wise and exercise caution before going to the polls.

"If you love these two suspects so much, you better consider their plight and allow them clear their cases first. If you must elect them, Kenya will not go anywhere.

"They are still young, therefore, let them be cleared so that they can come and seek leadership there after," said Karua.

Ms Karua  also took issue with Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the Cord presidential candidate, saying together with his two deputies Mr Kenyatta (Jubilee) and Musalia Mudavadi (Amani coalition) saying their tenure in government is not worthwhile.

"Let them explain to you what they did and not giving excuses that prevented them from doing it. I quit government myself as a Justice Minister because I found things were not being done right and I didn’t want to be complicit with that government, "said Ms Karua.

She said she had a thirst for leadership and would serve Kenyans if she is elected into office in the elections.

The only female presidential candidate said her government would guarantee free basic education from primary to secondary school.

“My policy would also ensure free medical services across the country and this is not going to be difficult at all.

"Treasury has admitted that a third of public money was being uncounted for every year because of corruption and this is the money that ought to be used to finance services," she said adding that she would tame corruption.

"You know how tough I am and that is what people say. In Parliament, I have been the prefect on corruption and I will continue fighting this menace that has deprived Kenyans of their rights," said the former Gichugu MP.

She asked the public to vet all the presidential candidates and dare not to elect a corrupt person if they expect a responsible government that can lead the nation into prosperity. - Daily Nation
