TNA files complaint with IEBC against Mbaru

The National Alliance Party (TNA ) has filed a complaint with the IEBC against Jimnah Mbaru’s candidature for the Nairobi governor seat on an Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) ticket.

In the letter to the IEBC, TNA has said that Mbaru’s move is “illegal, null and void” stating that it is a violation of the Political Parties Act and the Elections Act as Mbaru was still a listed member of TNA on January 18, the cut-off date for joining any political party.

TNA has asked the IEBC to reject Mbaru’s move on the grounds that “no Party could hold nominations after the 18th of January 2013. Consequently the APK is legally barred from being able to validly nominate Mr. Mbaru.” TNA has urged the IEBC to impose sanctions on both

Mbaru and APK for violating electoral laws. Businessman Jimnah Mbaru defected to APK party after he lost the TNA Nairobi governor nomination to former Embakasi Member of Parliament Ferdinand Waititu. The other candidate for the Nairobi governor race is Evans Kidero. - The Star
