Safaricom to switch off 1.3 million more SIM cards

The Kenyan DAILY POST has learnt that mobile service provider Safaricom plans to switch off about 1.3 million unregistered SIM cards within the next few days.

All unregistered sim cards were to be switched off just after new years’ celebrations under orders from the Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK). CCK’s directive has largely gone unhidden by most of the mobile service providers for fear of cutting off their customers and hence hurting their profits.

Safaricom, the country’s biggest mobile service provider on the basis of the number of subscribers, has always led the way in adhering to the CCK’s directives and it seems it’s going to do so this time too.
