The aspirant Peter Masese was going for the Makerero County representative seat.
Sources have told the Kenyan DAILY POST that among the suspects the police are pursuing are several of his rivals for the seat and some Tanzanian citizens.
Kuria West Deputy Police Chief Simiyu Walukano has confirmed the Tanzanian angle to the case;
“We have contacted the Tanzanian Police in Sirare after the culprits were spotted fleeing into the county on a motorbike bearing foreign number plates” said Simiyu.
Masese, who was for a long time a journalist in Mombasa before he decided to try his hand in politics, was reportedly shot just hours after he had completed a campaign tour of Isabania town.
Sources say that the killers knocked on Masese’s door, talked to him outside for a few minutes before shooting him in the chest eleven times.
