Hassan went on: “Further to the General Election Guidelines given in the Kenya Gazette Vol. CXIV- No. 132 of 28th December 2012, the Commission hereby gives direction on the matter.
Your attention is specifically drawn to Paragraph C of the said notice that disputes relating to or arising from nomination shall be determined within seven days of the lodging of the dispute with the commission.” Hassan noted any aggrieved contestant might lodge a complaint with the commission on January 22 by 5pm.
“Prior to lodging the complaint, the contestant/party must have exhausted all political party internal disputes resolution mechanisms as provided in the respective political parties constitutions and the nomination rules. The commission will adjudicate and determine on all such disputes by January 25,” added Hassan
He said all political parties must submit their final list of the nominees to the chairperson of the commission at IEBC headquarters, 6th floor Anniversary Towers, Nairobi by 5pm on January 21.
Confusion has marred the party primaries, which kicked off on Thursday, forcing the IEBC to extend the deadline to Monday.
The IEBC has also distanced itself from confusion that marred the primaries.
“Our attention is drawn by members of public appearing on media houses blaming IEBC for delay in delivering party nomination election materials. We wish to inform members of the public that the ongoing elections are being conducted by Political Parties and not IEBC,” said the Commission’s Corporate Communication Manager Tabitha Mutemi.
