A member of the Orange Democratic Movement elections board has recounted how a bodyguard of an assistant minister from Western Kenya abducted him on Wednesday from Orange House over nomination certificate fiasco.

Mr Aggrey Azelwa, who is in charge of Western region, says he was bundled into a private car by plainclothes police officers, who, he later learnt, were attached to the assistant minister.

Azelwa was taken to Kilimani Police Station where the minister wanted him charged but police dismissed their case and advised them to solve the issue at party level.

On Thursday, Azelwa and the Minister for Planning Wycliffe Oparanya met with all gubernatorial aspirants from Western Province at a hotel near Wilson Airport.

Nomination certificates

The aspirants later demanded for their certificates and condemned the alleged confiscation of the certificates by the assistant minister.

Later, he said the minister and his aides drove him to Athi River from where the National Elections Board officials were holed up to finalise the nomination certificates.

The commissioner said the minister who will be running for a gubernatorial position snatched from him all the nomination certificates for Bungoma County.

On Thursday, ODM elections boss Franklin Bett said he had nullified all the certificates from Nyanza and parts of Western regions.
