Gumo quits politics

Regional Development Minister Fred Gumo has quit active politics but said he will campaign for Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The immediate former Westlands MP announced his decision on Wednesday, a day before CORD’s nominations.

Gumo had indicated that he would vie for the Nairobi senate seat under ODM and was to battle it out with former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo and immediate former Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro for the slot.

The Orange Democratic Movement MP has served in the National Assembly of Kenya as Regional Development Minister since 2007.

In May 2012 he was appointed the Local Government minister in an acting capacity, taking over from Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi who resigned from the post to focus on his presidential bid.

Gumo has in the past served as Chairman to the Narobi City Commission.

Being Raila’s ally, Gumo had been seen as the man who will marshal voters from Western province and Nairobi.
