Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu Defends His Academic Credentials

Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu on Monday defended his academic credentials ahead of the political party nominations scheduled for Thursday.
Addressing a news conference at Parliament buildings, Mr Waititu said he graduated from India’s Punjabi University in 1988.
He flashed a certificate, which, he said, was issued by the university granting him a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Mr Waititu also showed journalists a picture of him in a graduation gown.
“This is me. I was a very handsome looking young man. I am a graduate. I have the papers. This Waititu that you see as a hooligan is the one who, almost thirty years ago, understood the importance of education, and that’s why I went to India.” said Mr Waititu.
Mr Waititu said, he had been cleared by The National Alliance party, and added that he had already settled on Mr Evans Ondieki, a city lawyer, as his running mate for the governor’s seat.
The MP added that he was not out to disrupt the campaign meetings of his opponents, but that he was doing his version of politics.
“Politics is not like a Christian party. Politics is politics. If we go to a meeting, I cannot tell my people that if they cheer me, they should also cheer you when we’re competing. If they don’t cheer you, that’s your beating, not mine,” said Mr Waititu.
The MP said he is a former employee of the Public Service Commission, and had been employed as a graduate.
“I have a file at the PSC. I worked as an Accountant at the Treasury and at the Ministry of Home Affairs,” said Mr Waititu.
He also tabled a school-leaving certificate from Dagoretti High School.
The leaving certificate is dated January 14, 2013. Mr Waititu said he went to pick the certificate on Monday and that he had gone to verify that actually his details were in the school’s records. He said he left the school in 1981.
“People have been trying to fight me in every way possible, but on this one, there is no way of succeeding,” said Mr Waititu, noting that he had the academic qualifications that one needs to be a governor. - Daily Nation
