Several other passengers in the Starways bus which was heading to Nairobi were injured in the accident at the Manyani black spot.
Coast Traffic police boss Joshua Omukata said the drivers of the two vehicles were among those who died.
Earlier Voi Traffic Base Commander Ms Fatuma Mohammed also confirmed the incident.
“I am at the scene of the accident at the moment. I will give you all other details later,” she told Nation on phone.
A witness who was in another bus heading for Nairobi described the scene of the accident as ghastly.
“It is a terrible sight. The bus driver must have been trying to avoid a stationary trailer and veered to the right and rammed into it. There are bodies on the road and many people are lying around injured,” the witness Mr Samuel Waindaba told Nation.
