APK defends Mbaru bid for city top job

Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi-led Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) appears headed for a political collision with TNA after the former maintained business magnate Jimnah Mbaru would contest the Nairobi gubernatorial position.

APK yesterday dismissed claims by TNA that Mbaru, who lost in primaries against Ferdinand Waititu, should not be allowed by IEBC to contest for defecting after the deadline.

“We do not go by what TNA says. Their sentiments are not correct. If we were wrong, IEBC would have barred us from presenting his name as our candidate,” said Kiraitu.

He added: “Jimnah’s move to APK was within the law and his name was submitted to IEBC within the required time.”

Kiraitu told TNA to prepare for a bruising battle, saying APK would support Mbaru’s campaigns. He hailed their candidate as the best person for the position of the Nairobi Governor.

“The development of the capital city will be very secure in the hands of this entrepreneur. He has all the qualities for the management of our capital,” said Kiraitu at the party’s headquarters.
