Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto got reprieve on Saturday, after the US and Britain envoys said they have not instituted any travel ban for the two leaders.

Speaking during a tour of voter registration centres in Thika Municipality, Kiambu County, the US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec said his country has not imposed a travel ban for Uhuru and Ruto as earlier reported in the media.

On his part, Britain envoy Christian Turner said his country has not imposed any ban on the two leaders, saying his country is not opposed to any of the Presidential aspirants, including Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto.

“We are not backing or opposing any candidate, political party or ethnic group. It is not for us to decide who is elected,” Turner said.

The two envoys further stated that their governments will not interfere with the Kenyan electoral process and they are only offering technical support through the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
