Makadara Member of Parliament Mike ‘Sonko’ Mbuvi has said that he will respect the decision of the electoral body on his eligibility to vie in the forthcoming General Election.
Speaking in Makadara during a tour to wish his constituents a Merry Christmas, Mbuvi said that it is the wananchi who should decide what kind of leaders they want but expressed his willingness to step out of the Senatorship contest if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) bars him from the race.
Mbuvi’s statement comes barely a month after the Commission on Administrative Justice, led by its chairperson Otiende Amolo declared the Makadara MP unfit to vie for any political post in the next elections for breaching Article Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity going by his public actions.
Mbuvi further accused the commission’s chairman Mr Otiende Amolo of having vested interests in Nairobi politics and asked him to let the voters decide their own destiny and leadership on the ballot box.
The other politician who was found unfit to vie for elective positions in the next elections is Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu who is contesting for the Nairobi Governor seat.
The case has since been forwarded to the IEBC for deliberation with the two legislators insisting that they are firmly in contention for their respective seats.
