The existence of a secret agreement first become clear early today when Uhuru met TNA delegates at the Multi Media University. The agreement was reportedly signed on the 4th of December, the same day the Jubilee alliance was born through the merger of TNA, URP and UDF.
Reading prepared remarks, Mudavadi today said the agreement was the reason he joined the alliance and he would like the coalition to proceed on the strength of it;
“I am surprised when they talk about a conference to pick a candidate. This is in breach of an agreement we signed,” said Mudavadi.
“Statements that we are not ready to face the delegates are misplaced statements,” he added.
Mudavadi also revealed that the agreement between him and Uhuru had been signed in the presence of Ruto and lawyers from both sides;
“Uhuru proposed we each present lawyers to sign an agreement,” he said.
“Uhuru assured me he was going to sacrifice his candidature and support me as the Jubilee Coalition flagbearer,” he added.
The UDF aspirant also took pains to maintain civility, saying that his party was still prepared to have consultations with the other Jubilee alliance partner parties;
“We will continue with intense consultations to find a lasting solution to steer our nation to greater strengths,” said the DPM
“I remain optimistic that we shall surmount this challenge and deliver to our people. I will all Kenyans a prosperous Christmas,” he concluded.
