GILGIL, KENYA: Police have arrested two men for allegedly defiling minors in separate incidents.

In the first incident, a man, 48, allegedly defiled a two-year-old girl in Elementaita in Gilgil District.

The suspect escaped death after he was rescued by police from a mob that wanted to lynch him.

Emotions ran high as the public threatened to torch the man’s house where he allegedly committed the act.

A witness identified as Wambugu said the minor was playing outside the house before the incident happened. “The suspect who stays nearby carried the minor to his house where he committed the offence,” he claimed.

The witness further said when the minor’s mother returned and found her missing, she decided to check the suspect’s house where she found him allegedly in the act.

Neighbours who responded to the woman’s distress call beat up the suspect before he was rescued by police.

The minor was rushed to Nakuru Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital. Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok said the suspect was being held at Elementaita Police Station.

Police have launched investigation into the incident and the suspect will be arraigned in court soon.

“The initial reports we have is that the suspect was nabbed defiling a two-year-old girl and beaten up by the public,” he said.

Lured the girl

And, a 32-year-old man is being held by police in Migori over claims that he defiled a Standard Six pupil in Kolando village.

The father of two was arrested by the area chief for allegedly defiling the 13- year-old girl on several occasions. The administrator, Cyprian Odila, said the suspect had allegedly given the victim some traditional herbs to prevent her from getting pregnant.

Mr Odila explained that the man had visited a relative in the village and lured the girl with a promise to marry her. “The parents got worried about her odd behaviour,” he said.

After interrogation the girl opened up to the parents who informed village elders and the chief.

The mother, realised something was amiss when she visited her daughter who was living with the grandmother.
