Presidential aspirant Martha Karua’s campaign tour of Embu County was on Sunday disrupted when rowdy youths barred her from addressing a rally in Runyenjes constituency.

The Narc Kenya leader had successfully addressed rallies in Kibugu and Manyatta markets when he encountered a group of about 100 youths who appeared drunk and blocked her in Kianjokoma market.

Ms Karua who was accompanied by Embu mayor Peter Muriithi and Runyenjes parliamentary aspirant Njeru Kathangu, was forced to cut short her speech by youths chanting : “TNA, TNA”.

The youths had arrived in three matatus and intercepted the former Justice minister as she made her entry to the venue where TNA was slated to hold a rally, forcing Ms Karua to walk for about 200 metres.

The Gichugu legislator criticized the youths and urged them to stop being used by politicians to disrupt rivals’ campaigns.

She also hit out at the police saying they had encouraged the group by failing to arrest two leaders who were seen coordinating them.

“ The OCS appears to welcome their action because he is not even trying to bar them. I have showed him the two people who are leading the youths but he has not arrested any of them,” Ms Karua fumed. She also dismissed the alliance between TNA leader Uhuru Kenyatta and URP’s William Ruto.
