According to a new poll by pollster Ipsos Synovate, 91% of Kenyans have expressed interest in registering to vote in the March 2013 general election. This is welcome news for the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) which intends to register 18 million voters in the voter registration process that started on Monday.
Ipsos Synovate interviewed some 2000 Kenyans between the 10th and 16 of November for the survey.
“78 per cent of Kenyans said the outcome of the next General Election was very important to them,” said Mr Wolf adding; “Another 18 per cent say the outcome of the polls was ‘somewhat important with the rest either not being sure or chose not to give a response at all.”
Wolf added that 39% of Kenyans still consider the high cost of living to be the biggest issue in the next election. The others issues are; corruption (14 %), unemployment (13 %), insecurity (12 %), poor leadership (4 %) and tribalism (4 %). Wolfe said these issues would have a big impact on the election;.
“These are critical issues will play a big role in determining what Kenyans are looking for in the next generation of leaders,” said Mr Wolf.
