The United Republic Party presidential hopeful William Ruto has said his party has not agreed with The National Alliance and Wiper Democratic Movement parties on a compromise presidential candidate.
“There is nothing like that. We have not agreed on any compromise presidential candidate,” he said in an interview in Taita Taveta County. Speaking to The Standard On Saturday after a URP rally in Mwatate yesterday,
Mr Ruto promised to turn around the economy once elected president
next year. He said the URP Government would implement policies that
would ensure that resources are allocated equitably.
Addressing political rallies in Taveta and Mwatate constituencies to drum up support for his presidential bid and his party, he said he would ensure fairness.
The Eldoret North MP said his Government would establish a special fund in all constituencies.
Ruto, who was accompanied by Medical Assistant Minister Kazungu Kambi, also opened party offices in Taveta and Mwatate towns to co-ordinate the party activities.
The former minister disputed claims the region was an ODM stronghold. “Kenyans should elect leaders who can speak and understand their problems and implement reforms that can alleviate poverty,” Ruto said.
He added that more resources would be channeled to the grassroots to improve infrastructure and help fight poverty and unemployment. “Sh80 million would be
allocated to every constituency every year for youth and women to improve their livelihoods.
The beneficiaries would borrow without collateral,” Ruto said. Mr Kazungu advised the local community to shun the Mombasa Republican Council, saying the group is a threat to security and was destroying tourism.
“MRC activities are illegal and detrimental to security. It is confusing the local community by telling them not to boycott the General Election,” he said.
