KALENJIN elders disown RAILA ODINGA

Barely a day after announcing their support for Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Presidential bid, a section of the Kalenjin elders have dismissed reports that they have endorsed the PM for the top seat.

Led by elders from Nakuru County, they said their meeting with the PM on Monday was to seek audience to problems affecting the community but not to support his Presidential bid.

The elders said they only urged the PM to strike a workable deal with Eldoret North MP William Ruto if the PM needs their support.

“We are the ones who organised the meeting and it is important for Kenyans to note that we don’t belong to any party. We wanted to tell him our grievances and ask him to talk with the Eldoret North lawmaker William Ruto if he wants our support,” said Mr Josiah Ruto who is the elders’ chairman.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who fell out with the Kalenjin community after he sacked Eldoret North lawmaker, has gone all out to win back the populous province back.

United Republican Party, led by Mr Ruto, also appears to be divided on how to deal with Mr Odinga ‘s approaches: some member says Mr Ruto will negotiate alliances on behalf of the party while others maintain that alliances must be dealt with party structures and not individuals.
