Presidential hopeful James Ole Kiyiapi received a major boost on Thursday after Party of National Unity (PNU) threw its weight behind his presidential bid.
Addressing mourners during the burial of Mzee Tampushi Ole Noonkerieti in Trans Mara, PNU chairman Gideon Konchellah said the party officials have resolved to support the Restore and Build Kenya (RBK) party leader’ s bid.
Konchellah said he was disappointed by the fact that Uhuru’s party The National Alliance (TNA) fielded candidates in Kajiado North and Kangema by-elections despite an earlier agreement against it.
Konchella, who is also Kilgoris lawmaker, accused some leaders of playing tribal cards while campaigning for their preferred candidates during the poll, a move he said was dangerous to national unity.
“We cannot say we are building national parties and when we go to our communities we tell them not to shame us. Each presidential candidate told his kinsmen not to put them in awkward situation in the recent by-elections,” Konchellah said.
He expressed his optimism that Prof Kiyiapi will be the fourth President of Kenya in the upcoming polls.
