Jail Top KNUT Officials For Contempt of Court

The teachers' employer wants the industrial court to find the two officials of KNUT, Wilson Sossion and Mudzo Nzili guilty of contempt of court for refusing to call of the strike as ordered by the industrial court.
TSC filed the charges after the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) failed to call off the strike within 24 hours after being served by court orders.
The contempt of court charges were removed on Monday after the TSC and KNUT engaged in fresh negotiations over teachers' strike.
KNUT has however declined to call off the strike saying they will do so when their demands are fully met.
They declined Ksh 17 billion pay offer the government had given them terming the offer as inferior saying they want the Ksh 47 billion they are demanding.
KNUT officials also wanted the pay increase to be effected at once and not in three phases.
KNUT also complained that most of their demands had been left out in the pay offer while those of their rivals Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) were taken aboard.
Meanwhile, TSC has made a milestone in ending the teachers' strike by sealing a deal with KUPPET.
According to TSC, the deal was now complete and the two parties were working on modalities to pay responsibility allowances.
TSC says the deal agreed upon incorporates only KUPPET members and not any other party but was quick to add that the door was open for KNUT to engage the government in dialogue.
TSC has also said following the agreement, the unpaid June salaries for teachers under KUPPET would be wired to the teachers' accounts by tomorrow, Thursday
