A women’s group in Kibera yesterday disrupted court proceedings as they differed with a magistrate at the Kibera law courts after he adjourned a session due to unavoidable circumstances. The court was on session for the hearing of the case of a man who is alleged to have raped a 6 year old girl at Kianda village in Kibera.
‘wamama sitaki mume’ group is known for their slogan ‘sita kimya’ after a local series which was produced by FilmAid International in collaboration with APHIA II Nairobi with the support of USAID. The film was written and produced by Cajetan boy and Lillian Thothoi.
James Nyabuto is alleged to have accosted the young girl at the crowded slum area and defiled her. He was arrested by the women who beat him severely before he was rescued by police and arraigned in court yesterday.
Nyabuto was released on bond by the magistrate at Kibera court after his hearing was interrupted. The women were angered by the magistrate and decided to take justice in their own hands if the court was not serving it.
They accosted the man and started beating him; police officers intervened and stopped mob justice. Officers at the court pleaded with the women to allow the court do their work.
