They were among the eight people who died in the Kisii accident on Friday, July 1.

The university students had left Nairobi to attend a friend’s graduation party at Magena, about 30 kilometres from Kisii town.

The trip was cut short when a lorry collided with two cars including theirs. From the collision, only three people survived and were rushed to Kisii Level Five hospital with serious injuries.

Their mother, Rachel Muthiga, told The Standard that the tragedy was the most painful thing that she has ever experienced.

“I have lost two flowers that had begun to flourish. This is the most painful thing to happen to any parent. I have single-handedly struggled to educate them since their father died in 2001. They have schooled together in primary, secondary and now in university,” said Muthiga as quoted by The Standard on Monday, July 4.

According to her, the deceased were like twins. They both went to Nyabururu Boarding Primary, Nyabururu National School and later moved to St Michael Girls in Kisii.

She was infuriated by reports on social media that she had committed suicide following the deaths as she could not cope with the loss.
