An enraged Ruto ambushed the officers demanding immediate release of the garbage truck driver and his vehicle, that had earlier been impounded for dumping waste at a land set aside for the construction of Bomet University College.
The Governor, who was visibly furious over the arrest, engaged the station's boss Chief Inspector Paul Karani, in a war of words while embrassing him in front of his juniors.
“How can you arrest a government driver going about his normal duties of delivering waste to a designated dump site?” Ruto was quoted by the Star.
Ruto condemned the apprehension of his worker, accusing the police of infringing the constitution by nabbing an employee who was disposing waste in a designated area.
It is reported that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are scheduled to launch the construction of the County's first ever University College on the land later next week.
The Bomet Governor went further to ask Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to immediately transfer the area County Commissioner Bernard Leparmarai, whom he accused of interferring with the county's functions, failure to which they would make the county ungovernable.
“We are going to make this county ungovernable until they bring GSUs to remove us if he is not going to be moved from this place within seven days," he stated.
Ruto threatened to camp thousands of locals outside the commissioner's office until he is transferred.
However, Commissioner Leparmarai told off the governor indicating that: “That is a private land belonging to the university. Everyone should know. Moi University has the title deed. The county should therefore stop disposing the waste on the land or else if it means arresting anyone or bringing GSU officers to man the site we shall bring”.
