The decision was arrived at unanimously by the family.
Lucy, wife of former president Mwai Kibaki, was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital Intensive Care Unit after falling ill last month.
Sources said the former first lady fell ill at her home in Muthaiga, Nairobi.
She was taken to Gertrude's Children's Hospital for "emergency care" at 4am before she was transferred to Nairobi Hospital.
Former president Mwai Kibaki's press secretary Dr. Ngare Gituku told journalists last month that there should be no alarm at all.
He said Mrs. Kibaki's visit to the hospital was merely a routine check-up; the kind that your mother and mine would need to undergo from time to time.
In 2014, Lucy was rushed to the hospital after reportedly complaining of chest pains. She was taken to hospital by family members and admitted in St Teresa’s Ward.
Lucy has not been seen in public for nearly five years.
The last public function that she attended was the ushering in of the new constitution at Uhuru Park, during which she took part in a lively and energetic jig.
