A source close to the political family that owns the large piece of real estate told Word is, “Steve Mbogo doesn’t own that house, nor has he bought it, he is a tenant. The sad thing about all this is that the person entrusted with the property is at pains to explain to the family how he can sell the property without their permission. Yet that is not the case. He is a tenant who pays Sh450,000 a month.”
In the interview with Nairobian, Steve reportedly laughed off claims that he is tenant and said, "My house in Karen sits on five acres. Where in Nairobi can you rent a house sitting on five acres for such a small amount?”
“Things have gotten so bad,” says the source that the person left in charge of the property wants the controversial businessman to issue a public statement retracting his claims that he bought the house.
“The owners are wondering, if the custodian of the property did indeed sell the palatial residence, then where is the money from the sale?” the source asked.
Steve has thrown mega bashes at the mansion and even allowed Nonini, DJ Pierra and TMK’s Chege Chigunda to shoot their latest music video, Wanajishuku in the compound.
Beside the mansion’s landlord, others people have called Steve out on his grandiose claims in sections of the media. Airline company Fly 540 are planning to sue Steve for claiming he is “part of its board”. Fly 540 Chief Executive and owner Don Smith said he has never met the self-proclaimed billionaire and only heard of him after his claims during an interview with Citizen TV.
Faulu Microfinance Bank Limited has distanced itself from Steve stating that he has never served on their board as chairman, in an official letter to newsrooms.
