Miss Anne Waiguru, resigned on Saturday from the powerful docket of Devolution and Planning citing concerns about her deteriorating health and concerns around her family’s well being.
In a press conference on Saturday afternoon at Harambee House, Waiguru who was almost crying said she decided to resign after her doctor, Dr Charles Kariuki, advised her to take up lighter duties.
Waiguru’s aide, who requested anonymity, said Dr Kariuki, a Cardiologist based at Nairobi Hospital, advised Waiguru to resign because remaining in office could continue to depress her and she may suffer Acute Coronary Thrombosis.
“The doctor advised her that by continuing to stay in office, she may suffer from complex heart complications due to pressure from Kenyans and the opposition,” the aide said.
Over the last three months, Waiguru has been under intense pressure from millions of Kenyans to resign as Minister after a series of multi-million corruption scandals were unearthed at her office.
Waiguru’s physician, Dr Charles Kariuki, advised her to leave office and ask her boss for easier assignments because her current ones were having negative implications on her health. Dr. Kariuki is the current head of Cardiology Department at Nairobi Hospital.
The ex-Devolution CS was left with no choice but to vacate office.
