Mother of widely known Kenyan footballer Dennis Oliech claims that she was in heaven and she saw God in a vision while she was in the ICU.
“I was in heaven, and I met my late son Steve Okumu . He took me to God who asked an angel for my book. God went through my book and told me to go back to earth. He said I still hadn’t finished my work here. That’s when I was taken to the gate and told to go back. I woke up in the ICU, and the doctors decided I stood a chance. They started operating on me,” she recalls.
Her first born son Steve Okumu was a lethal international striker who died in a road accident in Rhode Island at the age of 26 in 2002.
“I heard news of his death when I was in church. A neighbour pulled me aside and said she wanted to talk to me about my son. I told her that I have to finish the mass first before I could leave,” she explained.
According to Oliech’s mother, Steve had called her a week before his death to borrow some money so that he could move to a better house as he had been sign up by a club and would be earning good money. She received the news on Sunday when she was to get him a news house the next Monday.
Okumu’s tragic death was painful to his mother as her husband had died just an year earlier when five of her children were in secondary school.
“It is only Okumu who was in America on a football scholarship. He had not yet been signed by any team, but I took my children through school by selling fish,” she says.
