LATE LAST NIGHT, I received this very disheartening inbox from one of you: Details posted with the person's consent.
Hi Wahome: I am very disturbed I dont know what to do. Last week someone tried to rape my own mother but he didnt but she remained (sic) with scars in her face cause he tried to strangle her. He left his underwear behind, my mother strongly believe it is one of our neirbours. She says she bite him kwa mkono. We reported the case at Muranga Police Station, but Deputy OCS sarcastically asked us if someone witnessed it. We said no coz our mother was alone in the house. He then said, sawa nothing we can do, nyinyi eendeni nyumbani
I was very hurt to a point I couldnt hold my tear back. Pls advise me.

We requested for AP in our village to go n check if his hand is bitten, but wakasema hana alama kwa mkono, but smbody overheard them asking him for kuku ama wamshike,

SENDER: mum says he recently came home borrowing an old news paper after he was told hakuna its kind hakuwa anataka kuenda.
WT: After the OCS told you to go home, did you try another higher office.
SENDER: which other higher office, I thot that is highest in Muranga. Another police told us to go n do DNA to the underway,
WT: does the man have a wife?
SENDER: No, they separated with the wife long time ago
WT: What else did you do?
SENDER: We only took her to hospital, then reported the case, we also requested our APs in our village to arrest the suspect which they didnt coz they say ati waliangalia mkono wake na plan na hawakuona mark,
Wt: Where exactly in Muranga is your home?
SENDER: From Muranga town, Its like 45 min drive, my village is called Gakurwe village, Gaturi location & Gathukeini sub loc.
WT: Is this incident known there?
SENDER: Yes, its a known case, even sub cheif knows it. we left that underwear with police plus hizo nguo za my mum zilikuwa na blood
WT: When exactly was it? which day last week?
SENDER: 9th, , so we reported on 10th. I travelled to Muranga on 10th from (location given)?
WT: what does your dad do? (Answer given but we keep it private)
SENDER: I am fearing for my mum, what if that person comes back n the worst happens, what normally happens like now since we reported, r we suppossed to request the arrest of suspect, or the police do it voluntarily b
WT: Police should investigate. There is no reason why they should not. What is the name of the sub-chief?
SENDER: He is muhia. his no. (number given).
WT: Is that a number he has given to the public or its his personal number?
SENDER: i was given that no. from home, n its what I used to call him that day. cant really say with authority if its public
This is a good illustration of what I always say. In Kenya, police require you to go with the rapist, holding him by the neck, for them to arrest. Investigations especially in rural areas are ZERO. Dont think about Fida-Kenya unless you are stinking rich or influential. Is there anything like Murang'a Moms????
