Police said the victims were from the same family and were from paying dowry in Eldoret when the incident happened at about 7 am.
Four others sustained serious injuries following the accident that happened after thedriver of the trailer lost its control after its brakes failed at the steep area.
Traffic commandant Samuel Kimaru said they fear the death toll may rise because the survivors sustained serious injuries.
He said of the dead, five are women, one girl and six men including drivers of both vehicles.
“Preliminary findings show the lorry driver lost its control before it hit the matatu and dragged it down the steep area killing ten on the spot,” said Kimaru.
Those injured were rushed to hospitals in Nakuru town.
He said the area is dangerous and killer spot.
