Obama Sends a Message of Goodwill to Kenyans On Celebrating 50 Years of Independence

 U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday sent a message of goodwill to Kenyans on celebrating to years of independence. In a statement issued by Secretary of State John Kerry on behalf of the president, the U.S. applauded Kenya for implementinga new constitution and holding peaceful elections earlier this year. The U.S. also reiterated its commitment to a continued friendship with Kenya.

On behalf of President (Barack) Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Kenya as you celebrate your Golden Jubilee on December 12.

Jamhuri (Independence) ay is a testament to the strength of the Kenyan people. The United States applauds Kenya for holding a peaceful national election this year and for implementing its new constitution.

The devastating Nairobi airport fire and the tragicterrorist attack at the Westgate Mall tested the nation's strength, but Kenyans united in the face of adversity to overcome these challenges with courage and resolve.

The United States and Kenya have been friends for half a century. We celebrate all that we have accomplished together, and we remain committed to working with Kenya to meet the challenges and seize the common possibilities that lie ahead.
