Police have recommended that both Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero and Women Representative Rachael Shebesh should be charged with fighting in public.

The detectives from Nairobi Central CID have requested the Director of Public Prosecution to draw charges against both leaders after Kidero slapped Shebesh on September 6.

Shebesh filed a complaint at the Parliament police station claiming Kidero had slapped her.

Kidero then filed a report at the Central Police station claiming that Shebesh first hit him in the groin.

The videotape of the incident which went viral online after Shebesh joined striking council workers in storming Kidero's office at City Hall.

Kidero opened the door of his office to be confronted by Shebesh and around 30 workers. It is at this point that the incident occurred.

Police said that they had collected enough evidence to charge both Kidero and Shebesh with affray following their investigations, .

They had both presented P3 forms indicating they had each been injured by the other and each presented several witnesses.

At least 10 people have recorded statements to support Kidero's allegation that he was assaulted while Shebesh has seven witnesses to confirm that Kidero slapped her.

Nairobi CID boss Nicholas Kamwende yesterday forwarded the investigations report to the CID headquarters with their recommendations, according to police sources.

It is now up to Director of CID Ndegwa Muhoro to forward the file to DPP Keriako Tobiko for a decision.

Kidero has since apologized to Shebesh. “It was an unfortunate reaction by me. I am sorry about this ugly incident and I apologize to Shebesh," Kidero said.

Nairobi Senator Gidion Mbuvi Sonko has been trying to mediate between Kidero and Shebesh saying that the incident had been politicised.

Sonko wanted Kidero and Shebesh to withdraw their police complaints and settle the matter amicably.
