The ‘mother’s mummy’ has been captured by TV cameras in former Soviet state of Georgia.
Joni Bakaradze died aged 22, before his son’s second birthday, and the late man’s father decided not to bury him, but preserve him so his grandson could look at his father.
For four years, Tsiuri Kvaratskhelia used balsam to preserve the body but then switched to her own methods.
“One night I had a dream when a voice told me, ‘Treat Joni using rubbing alcohol’,” she said.
“So from then on I’ve been using wet sheets dipped in alcohol to preserve the body.”
“You must not leave the body without the sheets overnight, as the skin will turn black as charcoal.”
Ms Kvaratskhelia even changed her dead son’s clothes on his birthday.
She says her grandson believes the family made the correct decision in preserving the body as he “started to love his father”.
The woman also apologised for her son’s appearance as TV cameras filmed the body in the family home.
“He was a good man (when he was alive), a good husband, not the way he is now.”
