Inspector-General of Police David Kimaiyo said some people were soliciting cash through M-Pesa numbers from well-wishers, claiming they were collecting the money to help the victims of the attack.
He advised organisations which wish to help to notify the authorities of their intention.

“As far as the National Police Service is concerned, it is only Safaricom, through pay bill number 848484, and Airtel that are collecting donations,” he said in a statement.
He warned contributors to be wary of requests for cash and urged them to verify the sources to avoid being duped.
Mr Kimaiyo also called for sobriety and support from Kenyans at this time.
“Unfortunately, there are people who are giving false and misleading information to the security agencies. This is criminal and can result in serious consequences,” he said adding that the joint coordination team will be issuing updates as and when necessary.
