All permanent secretaries (PSs) have been asked to vacate their offices Wednesday, the same day the vetting of principal secretaries who will replace them is scheduled to begin.
In a letter copied to all PSs, Mr Francis Kimemia, who is the Secretary to the Cabinet, asked the outgoingPSs to hand over their offices to the senior most head of department in their ministries by Wednesday.
Handing-over notes, Mr Kimemia said, should contain the status of projects as well as the financial and human resource statements for the ministries they were serving.
On June 7, President Uhuru Kenyatta and deputy William Ruto nominated 26 principal secretaries who will replace the permanent secretaries after vetting by the National Assembly and swearing-in.
The exercise is expected to take two days with the respective National Assembly House committees handling nominees falling within the ministries under their watch.
Permanent secretaries who have been nominated for the principal secretary positions were, however, asked to prepare handing over notes and remain in office until they resume their new mandates after appointment and swearing-in.
Only two outgoing PSs, Mutea Iringo (Internal Security) and Kibicho Karanja (Ministry of Transport), were appointed to the position of principal secretary even though they were not among those shortlisted and interviewed by the Public Service Commission.
Absorbed
Mr Iringo was a nominee for the Interior and Co-ordination of National Government docket while Dr Karanja was nominated for the Foreign Affairs docket.
The outgoing PSs will be cleared by the respective Cabinet Secretaries.
In the letter, Mr Kimemia said that the president had indicated that some of the PSs could be absorbed in the government and indicated that needy sectors be identified to accommodate some of the outgoing PSs.
